KIGALI, RWANDA — On 28th June 2026, a two-member verification team from the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) conducted an official inspection visit to the United African Institute of Technology as part of the national CBT/CBA verification process for the certification of graduating students. The inspection, which involved a thorough review of both the learning environment and individual student portfolios, concluded on a highly positive note: every student from the 2025/2026 intake who had completed their studies and internship was found to have fulfilled all requirements for graduation, and RTB formally commended UAIT for its full compliance with RTB's regulatory framework.

About the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB)

The Rwanda TVET Board is the national body responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and regulating Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Rwanda. RTB sets quality standards, accredits institutions, and certifies learners under a Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBT/CBA) framework designed to align skills training with the demands of Rwanda's growing economy.

The CBT/CBA Framework

Rwanda's TVET system operates on a Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBT/CBA) model — a rigorous, evidence-driven approach to skills education in which a student's readiness for certification is measured not simply by attendance or examination scores, but by demonstrated, documented competency across every element of their programme.

Under this framework, each student must assemble a comprehensive portfolio of evidence — a record of their practical work, assessments, internship outcomes, and skill demonstrations — which is then subject to verification by RTB's team. Only students whose portfolios meet RTB's prescribed standards across all competency units may be recommended for national certification.

The Inspection Process at UAIT

The RTB verification team arrived at UAIT's Kimihurura Campus on the evening of June 28th and conducted a structured two-part assessment. In the first part, the team examined UAIT's learning environment — reviewing how training is delivered, how competencies are tracked throughout the programme, and how the institution maintains its compliance records in line with RTB's CBT/CBA regulatory requirements.

In the second and most critical phase, the team reviewed the individual student portfolios of all 2025/2026 intake students who had completed both their core studies and their required internship period. Portfolio by portfolio, the inspectors examined the documented evidence for each competency unit — assessing whether each student's work met the national standard for certification eligibility.

Outcome: All Students Fulfil Graduation Requirements

Full Clearance — Every Student Meets RTB Requirements

At the conclusion of the portfolio review, the RTB verification team confirmed that all 2025/2026 intake students who completed their studies and internship had fulfilled every requirement for graduation under the CBT/CBA framework. No student required remediation or resubmission. The team formally noted that UAIT's documentation standards, training quality, and institutional practices are fully compliant with RTB regulations.

This outcome is a direct reflection of the structured approach UAIT takes to preparing its students — ensuring that learning is practical, documented, and tied to real workplace competencies from the very first day of the programme through to internship completion.

RTB Commends UAIT for Regulatory Compliance

Beyond confirming individual student clearance, the RTB team took the opportunity to formally acknowledge UAIT as an institution. They commended UAIT for being compliant with RTB's regulations on the CBT/CBA framework — noting that the institution's processes, record-keeping, and overall delivery of the programme meet the required standards set for TVET institutions in Rwanda.
